PostSubject: A cure at last   Sat Dec 17, 2011 7:53 pm

I'm finally getting back to my old self again after almost 10 months of chronic muscular pain, dizziness, visual disturbances and nausea and a long list of other complaints. But no thanks to the myriad of doctors, osteopaths, physiotherapists and nurses who were either baffled, shockingly incompetent or only seemingly only interested in making money from other peoples misery.

Its thanks to this book and hours and hours researching my symptoms and the causes that its been possible. The book is about trigger points or knots as we know them, the causes, where they are, what they do and how to treat them yourself. We all have them, but most people don't know what they do, how to treat them or are even aware that they have them.

If you have had pain for ages no matter how minor, an injury or have dodgy joint that doesn't work like it used to, or know someone else that does but doesn't know why, read this book.

One of the biggest lessons for me has been the realisation of just how useless the medical profession are in the area of chronic muscular pain and related ailments. I'm not saying its a cure all (pain has a lot of causes) but its a good start and something every one should have an awareness of.

Sorry for the long rant, I've not seen the light or been taking illicit drugs. Its just a profound thing for me to be rid of this after all this time and I just want to pass this knowledge on so others don't have to suffer too.

It was pretty horrendous to be honest. I've had a lot of time off work so my bosses and colleagues are treating me like I'm making it all up, which just added to everything really. I'm gonna quit that place in the new year, I've had enough of their shit. I can't help but think about the thousands of others out there who are going through the similar things and could perhaps treat themselves if they had the knowledge.

Read this about Carpal tunnel syndrome which is basically pain, numbness and tingling in the wrists, forearm and hands. Which affects thousands if not millions, and then look at the treatment options. Where the does it mention massage or trigger points? It doesn't. It offers surgery, drugs, and physio. It says 'splints to keep the wrists straight' WTF! That's precisely what causes the problem in the first place! Muscles are designed to move, but they don't when you're typing on a keyboard all day or performing the same repetitive motions. When they don't move they contract, get fatigued, weak. Other muscles not designed for the job take over their role and get the same symptoms too, eventually you get pressure on the nerves and those weird symptoms. It also says stretching and strengthening exercises, which again makes the problem much worse cos they don't get rid of trigger points, they irritate them. Trigger points have to be massaged out first and then you stretch and strengthen muscles.

Do you see what I'm getting at now?

Sorry for going like a crazy fool, I'm just passionate about this.

Its funny how so many ailements can actually be treated without the use of meds or surgery. My mum used to have crippling pains in her wrists and had accupuncture to cure her and she hasn't had trouble since.

So the book you purchased how did it help? What was you regime and are you now pain free or do you still get pain and are you still sticking to your regime?

Problem with work places is that when they say sickness they still seem to think its flu symptons, viruses and broken limbs. They overlook so many things and just the majority of the time people are just putting it on.

I knew I had trigger points but only in my shoulder blades, neck and collar bone. I wasn't aware of how many I had until I read the book. Since I've found them in the forearms, shoulders, under my ribs, arse (yeah my arse), legs and hands so far.

I use a tennis ball mostly a couple of times a day otherwise as and when with my hands, a lot of things have gone for good. Like the pain I had between my thumb and index finger and a few other places. So yes still some aches and pains but very little now.

They do come back again but you know where they are it gets easier and eventually they go for good. I feel fantastic and everyone is commenting on how much better I look. I chopped down a tree yesterday, hauled a sofa outside and went shopping today as well as going out Friday night and I couldn't do these things 2 months ago.

Yeah they use needles to get rid of them as well which does work very well. The down side is that some muscles overlap each other, so in some areas a muscle needs to be moved to one side to allow you to get to it or the muscle is too deep for the needle to reach.

Fascinating!! I might look into the book as it may help my old man with his hands.

I had no idea you couldn't even go shopping, or lift items. Was the pain constant or only when you tried to do certain things? It's good to read you're doing well though mate, wish I had more to add.

I just hope you find a job easily given the way they treated ya

It might do. It helped with my thumb. There is a whole chapter on hand pain, just flicking through the author believes it mostly caused by trigger points in the forearm muscles referring pain to the fingers and palms. That's the thing about trigger points, the source of the problem is rarely where it hurts. Have the Drs diagnosed anything wrong with his hands?

Not constant, usually at the end of the day or when I walked about tried doing manual work at home. I used to take painkillers when it was at worst. Mine was caused by being given a chair at work that wasn't adjustable, from using a PC all day and from carry a rucksack. All this caused a muscle imbalance called upper crossed syndrome and the muscles developing trigger points due to the strain. What pisses me off is that I had to figure this all out myself and it took months of reading medical stuff I got from the Internet, no Dr (and I've seen many) or anything has diagnosed me with anything wrong.

I'm sure he's been given a diagnoses Ill ask him.

You should take the book to your Dr and tell him your story mate. Bloody useless bastards. People don't realise how important a good chair is especially if you're gonna been stuck in one for hours. I spend most of my time sitting on the floor Laughing

Can you prove that the chair was one of the problems? if so you can sue them ( i think)

I don't know if I'm allowed back at the drs I kicked off the last time I went Laughing

Very true. Even sleeping on your front can't cause problems.

No not really, they didn't have employer's liability insurance at the time either. Just goes to show I guess.

I'm going to do a massage course next year, just an introductory one to learn how about the basics and maybe do a proper qualified one later on. I found the one I want to do, just going to get xmas out the way first.

Wow, glad to hear you're doing better, mate!

A while back we were going through hell with my niece. She was in & out of the hospital for almost a year constantly vomiting blood, not being able to keep food down, and all of her organs were swelling, and no doctor could figure out why.
All they could tell us was that she would probably die soon.

Well finally she went to an ultra-specialist & they diagnosed her with CVS, cyclical vomiting syndrome. It's rare, and it doesn't go away and there's no cure, but with certain medications it can be controlled.
This past year she was healthier than she's ever been in her life. She credits is to becoming a vegan.

Thanks. I second that glad to hear your niece is well Gol. I remember reading your post on the previous forum.

Its not worth it, I want to turn it in to a positive thing and it would be difficult to prove anyhow. I was looking at remedial massage which is the type that helped me. The other type you get in beauty salons is pointless. I think the most difficult hurdle that I will face in my quest is to not get a raging stiffy when I'm massaging a bird.
